English Language Enhancement course

Information about the requirement for International undergraduate students to complete the ELE course

From 2010, all International students enrolling in a bachelors degree will be required to complete a compulsory English Language Enhancement course in the first semester of study unless they meet at least one of the following criteria:

  1. Have achieved at least one of the following within the last two years:
    • IELTS (Academic) of 7.0 with no sub-score below 6.5 (or equivalent)
    • TOEFL (paper-based) 580
    • TOEFL (computer-based) 237
    • TOEFL (internet-based) 92 with no score below 22
    • At least ISLPR 3+ in each skill.
  2. Have satisfactorily completed one of the qualifications specified in Schedule A to the Admission Policy for Undergraduate Programs.
  3. Have satisfactorily completed study (within the past five years) from Canada [excluding Quebec], New Zealand, Australia, Republic of Ireland, United States or United Kingdom as follows:
    • Senior secondary study (excluding Foundation program studies) or equivalent where the study duration was at least two years
    • Post-secondary study where the study duration was at least two years
    • VET-sector accredited certificate, diploma, advanced diploma or equivalent (for example, TAFE) where the combined program duration was at least two years
    • A higher education sector accredited associate degree or degree (or equivalent) where the study duration was at least two years.
  4. Have satisfactory completed (within the past five years) at least two years full-time equivalent study in post-secondary, higher education sector accredited associate degree or degree-level study or equivalent in a country as specified in Schedule A to the Admission Policy for Undergraduate Programs in which the language of instruction and assessment/examination for the entire two years was in English.

Advice regarding the requirement to complete the English Language Enhancement course will appear in the Griffith Online Student Centre (To Do List) and International students will be able to access this site when enrolling.
